Asbestos & Lead

ASBESTOS IS MORE COMMON THAN YOU THINK

Several building products may contain asbestos. Potential risks may be found in places you might not think would contain hazardous materials:

  • Floor tile and linoleum
  • HVAC insulation
  • Textured paints
  • Sheetrock/joint compounds
  • Acoustical ceilings
  • Roofing, shingles, felts and siding

NO ONE CAN TELL JUST BY LOOKING AT IT

Many licensed professionals often make visual judgments about whether or not a material contains lead or asbestos.

FACT: Inhalation of asbestos fibers can be deadly…even through short-term exposure. Asbestosis, mesothelioma, and lung cancer are just a few serious diseases caused by asbestos exposure. Why risk your safety or your license? Proper testing is absolutely essential to confirm the presence of this dangerous, naturally occurring mineral fiber.

FACT: Lead damages the brain, kidneys and nerves…and this damage can be permanent. Children and expectant mothers are especially at risk. Buildings constructed before 1978 often contain lead paint. Large quantities of lead dust and chips are often generated through remodeling or renovating, so if you’re planning a job that disturbs lead painted surfaces, avoid potential lawsuits and make sure you’re safe. Laboratory analysis is the most accurate test.

National Analytical Laboratories (N.A.L) is certified to help you identify asbestos and lead…and all the precautions you need to protect yourself. Remember: Test before you renovate, remodel or demolish.
